Writing your members of Congress is an effective way to advocate for an issue you are passionate about.
Tips for writing to your member of Congress
Be respectful and succinct, do not use jargon
Provide your contact information and offer to be a resource (if applicable)
Be sure to thank them for their work
Make sure you have an “ask.” If the ask is to support or oppose a specific piece of legislation, be sure to include the title and bill number.
Support your ask with a relevant story. This helps them remember your meeting!
Make it personal—highlight something specific they have done that you appreciate. This shows you have done some research
